Hi there,
Serverless Cost & FinDev
This past week I had a tweet storm on serverless cost and FinDev. To sum it up, cost is important but without the context of budget and revenue, relying on it alone can yield less than optimal decisions.
Currently I'm seeing cost tracking appear as a feature in some engineering focused products in the serverless ecosystem. I think there's a limited audience of engineers that adequately care about or fully understand cost, and those that do care are often stuck in the mindset of looking at their work only as a cost and not as a revenue generator.
From a product standpoint I think cloud financials deserve their own product category. This would be a product that gives a fuller picture of serverless financials including cost, budget, and revenue. And, it should be developed for the appropriate user audiences which include members of finance, product management, and engineers.
If you're interested in serverless and its implications on organization financials, then read our Serverless DevOps: Cost, Revenue, & FinDev blog post. My disagreement with products out there is not a criticism either. And if you currently need cost tracking take a look at Epsagon.
By the way, we didn't write that blog post just last week. We have something bigger coming soon but this chapter fit perfectly with this week's activity. 🤔
Boston and LISA Serverless Workshop
We have two upcoming AWS serverless workshop events coming up. Our first is in Boston on 10/17 while our second is at USENIX LISA on 10/30. If you're in the Boston area or will be attending USENIX LISA then check one out!
