Hi there,
This week we have a long asked for AWS Lambda event source AND we had a conversation with VictorOps / Splunk!
SQS Event Source For Lambda!
Many people have been tossing crypto coins into the data lake in the hopes of being granted an #awswishlist to get SQS as an event source for Lambda. Last week, OUR WISH WAS FINALLY GRANTED! (And most of those crypto coins were worthless anyways.)
AWS Lambda Adds Amazon SQS to Supported Event Sources
Maybe it's time to refactor some of your architecture now to remove the convoluted ways you've either tried to trigger Lambda as an SQS consumer. Or, don't fix what isn't broken and use this knowledge for the next time you need it. The engineering choice is yours.
If you're an AWS SAM CLI user this capability is already available. If you're Serverless Framework user, have a look at Alex DeBrie's PR here.
Want to know more about using SQS as an event trigger? Read Jeremy Daly's "Serverless Consumers with Lambda and SQS Triggers".
Our Chat With VictorOps On Going Cloud And Serverless
We recently sat down with Beau Christensen, Senior Engineering Manager at VictorOps, to discuss their migration from the data center to AWS as well as introducing serverless. Have a read about our conversation here:
